Our Standards
What you can expect from your carer.
Your carer is there to help with a range of duties, from personal care to keeping the house nice and tidy.
Carer Characteristics
- Polite - Your caregiver will always be respectful and considerate.
- Flexible - You can expect your caregiver to be adaptable to many scenarios.
- Honesty - You may expect your caregiver to act with integrity and honesty at all times.
- Organised - You can expect your caregiver to work in an orderly and controlled manner.
Personal
These are tasks centered on maximizing the person receiving care's safety, comfort, happiness, and well-being.
Grooming and washing
Assist with the daily regimen of washing, grooming, and dressing in clean clothes. Applying cosmetic creams or make-up, hair removal, and nail filing may also be included if necessary.
Hearing aids, prostheses, and dental or those can be applied and removed - only if guidance has been given.
Toileting assistance
Personal or toileting aid, including assistance to and from the bathroom, as well as into the shower or bath. Personal care can include more sophisticated incontinence help.
We ask that families provide the required equipment, such as gloves, aprons, and incontinence pads.
Assist with getting around
We are really proud of our experienced management team's skills. We consistently invest in their growth and are proud of the long tenures that several of our management team members have with us..
Hydration and Nutrition
Preparation of carefully prepared, fresh meals for the individual receiving care, ensuring they are always well fed and hydrated. This does not include PEG feeding, which requires special arrangements. If there are any worries about eating, the caregiver should discuss with you.
Unless otherwise specified, the caregiver is not expected to make meals for the rest of the household.
Sleep and the nighttime
Caregivers may usually provide assistance at night by ensuring that all necessary materials are accessible and that the person receiving care is comfortable. They can assist with disruptions up to twice per night, for about 15 minutes each time.
If the disturbances become too frequent, you, the caregiver, and the Elder will need to make new arrangements. We also urge that a commode be made available to aid in safety.
Domestic
These are tasks ensuring a safe and happy environment for your loved one to enjoy.
Shopping and household management
The carer can shop for food and other necessary household items, if needed. If this is the case, we recommend providing them with a prepaid card, as well as guidance on preferences.
Diary planning
The carer will help the person being cared for to keep on top of medical appointments, events and dates, and also inform your family of any big events.
Activities and companionship
The carer will encourage and support the person being cared for to safely take part in activities of their choice if time allows, including those in and out of the house and with others.
The carer should spend time with the person being cared for as often as wanted, to keep them occupied and happy. They’ll engage in conversation, speaking clearly with a good level of English. The carer will only care for pets if has been previously agreed.
Emergencies
In the event of an emergency, the carer should always call both the relevant emergency service and your family contact. However, particularly with a fall, they’re trained not to physically intervene. This is in order to prevent further injury.
Carer handovers
When it's time for a change of carer, your current carer is expected to communicate all the necessary information to the incoming carer. This must be done in person during a full handover — unless otherwise agreed.
Wellness
Our entire operation is centered on the happiness of our residents and employees. The environment in our care homes, strong connections, encouraging physical exercise, and positive mental health lay the groundwork for wellness for everyone at Fair Choice Health Care.
